A Wet Day on the Camino

We saw our first rain today and it hung in for most of the day. No worries though. It was planned for, and we had the gear to handle it - raincoats, covers for the backpacks, a wide brimmed hat, and a little extra determination!

The route today took us 22 km from Carreco to Seixas, but what was interesting was the elevation change we experienced this morning.  It was all climbing for the first hour or two, and our vertical ascent was 469 meters (about 1,500 ft). The climbing is shown in red on the map.

What goes up, must come down, and we were back at sea level fairly soon and enjoyed the scenic walk along the Atlantic before turning northeast along the Minho River.

This clock tower is the last remaining tower of the medieval Castle of Caminha dating back to the 15th century.

And the interior of this nearby church from the same era was amazing!

The rain and ascent didn’t affect our pace much, and we still completed the 22 km before lunch. I told Charlotte she should order something too. 🤣

Oh look, the sun came out, and we’re getting our first glimpse of Spain!  We won’t cross the border for a few more days, but we’re making progress!

This is where we are staying tonight.

Charlotte and I both snagged bottom bunks!

Time for a little laundry.

And people bring all sorts of things with them on the Camino. Well, actually, that’s not really true; most people just bring the bare essentials. I’m going to be nice and just leave this one here without any comment. At least the rest of us had something to bond over. 🙂

Not all the albergues offer a pilgrim meal, but this was a nice way to end the day.

That’s all for now!
