Another Day, Another 24 km

It was another amazing day on the Camino as we walked 24 km from Vila do Conde to Esposende. These are our guide markers along the way.

Some are easy to see…

Don’t forget to look down.

And some are not so obvious!

About half of our route today was again along the beautiful coast of Portugal.

The second half of the route took us inland through a lot of agricultural areas.

These are potatoes and onions in the fields.

Why didn’t I ever think of planting a garden right on TOP of the compost pile? Genius!

Beautiful flowers everywhere.

And apparently Saturdays in Portugal are a lot like Saturdays in Pawleys Island for some guys. 🙂

We also walked by several unique and beautiful cemeteries, as well as countless churches, big and small.

And some more whimsical sights along the way…

After 20 km under our belts, and the end of the day’s journey in sight (all before lunchtime today!), it was time to refuel.

We made it to our hostel in Esposende early in the day and took in a few sights nearby.

This is our hostel for the night.

And this is a cool monument to Paulo Gonçalves, a Portuguese champion rally racing motorcyclist from Esposende who died in a cycling competition accident in 2020.

After that big lunch, it was a simpler “grocery store dinner” tonight.

And finally, we found a Saturday vigil Mass in this beautiful little church that dates back to 1566.
